Story

The sheer existence of Spam and Hebrew National salami is a physical declaration of mankind's contempt for the natural order. They are amalgamations of the meat of several animals, emulsified, liquefied, strained, and ultimately inexorably joined in an unholy meat obelisk. God had no hand in the creation of this abhorrence. The fact that these meat monoliths exist proves that God is either impotent to alter Her universe or ignorant of the horrors taking place in Her kingdom.

They're both delicious wrapped in rice with pickled vegetables.

Ingredients

Filling

ai
2 cupsRice
1 tbspRice Vinegar
1 tbspMirin (or simple syrup)
100gSalami
1 mediumCucumber
100gPickled Carrots
1 tspSesame seeds

Wrapper

ai
4 sheetsNori Sheets
1 tbspSesame Oil

Equipment

ai
Bamboo sushi matt

Preparation

Step 1: Season the fillings

  • Season the rice with rice vinegar and mirin. Mix well.
  • Slice the salami into long strips with a diameter of a pencil.
  • Gather the pickled vegetables.

Step 2: Prepare the wrapper

  • Lay a nori sheet on your bamboo matt§.
  • Brush the nori sheet lightly with sesame oil. Spread a layer of the rice around the entire nori sheet.

§ If you don't have a sushi matt, you can use parchment paper. Plastic and foil don't work because you can't slide them well to tighten your roll.

Step 3: Roll it up

  • Lay the salami, cucumber, and pickles in parallel lines down the middle of the rice.
  • Roll it up in one fluid motion to keep the ingredients in place but you don't need to be too tight. Use the wrapper to pull down and back to tighen the roll.
  • Slice it cross-wise evenly, garnish with sesame seeds.
